golf cart and low speed vehicle insurance

Golf carts and low speed vehicles (LSVs) are growing in popularity because they are convenient, relatively easy to operate, and versatile.

Golf carts, whether electric or gas powered, are ideal for hauling things around your yard, gardening, visiting friends in the neighborhood, going to the pool or club house, and of course golfing. With top speeds up to about 15 miles per hour, golf carts are usually driven locally around country clubs or gated communities. However, coverage may also be available for limited use on public streets, so talk with your local Safeco independent agent about rules in your area.

LSVs (also called neighborhood electric vehicles) differ from golf carts in a couple of ways. They have a higher top speed of around 25 miles per hour and also have safety features such as seat belts, running lights, turn signals, rear view mirrors, and brake lights. LSVs can be used on public roads with a maximum posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour. Note: unless the LSV is used only for golfing, it will be insured on a Safeco auto policy, which gives you all the necessary coverage to comply with state requirements for road use.

Safeco also insures a wide variety of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) with four or six wheels, side-by-sides, utility task vehicles (UTVs), or similar off-road utility vehicles. See our ATV/UTV section for more information.

Safeco insures nearly all makes and models of golf carts. We also cover all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) with four or six wheels, a wide variety of utility task vehicles (UTV), side-by-sides, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and other select off-road vehicles. +Do I really need a golf cart policy? Doesn't my homeowners policy give me enough coverage?-Do I really need a golf cart policy? Doesn't my homeowners policy give me enough coverage?Do I really need a golf cart policy? Doesn't my homeowners policy give me enough coverage?
Your homeowners policy may give you some coverage for use of a golf cart, but it's very limited and there are many common situations that could leave you without protection. For example, many homeowners policies won't cover you when you drive to a neighbor's house, which is a typical use for these types of vehicles. Having a separate policy gives you peace of mind because you'll have coverage at home, on the golf course, and on public roads, even if you loan your golf cart to a friend.

Plus, you can take advantage of valuable extras like custom parts coverage, roadside assistance, and OEM parts coverage. Your local independent agent can help you select the right type of policy for your needs.

Depending on which state you live in, you may be required to carry UM/UIM coverage for vehicles that are used on public streets, so talk with your local independent agent to be sure.
