Frequently Asked Questions
Safeco insures all-terrain vehicles with four or six wheels, a wide variety of utility task vehicles (UTV), side-by-sides, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, golf carts, and other select off-road vehicles. Talk with a Safeco agent to get details about all the vehicles types we cover.
Our minimum operator age is 14 years and older. Vehicles made for, or used by, young children, like child-sized ATVs, dirt bikes, or other similar off-road vehicles, are ineligible for coverage with Safeco.
No. Safeco does not cover ATVs or dirt bikes used for motocross or other racing contests or those with nitrous oxide kits installed.
Absolutely! We offer discounts for completing an approved ATV safety course, joining a riding club, lifetime riding experience, owning your home, storing your ATV in a garage, and other options. For a complete list of discounts and savings options talk with your local independent agent.
Accidents with other drivers or riders can occur even off-road. That's why Safeco offers protection against the cost of injuries or damage you may experience as a result of an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured (UM/UIM) driver. Depending on which state you live in, you may be required to carry UM/UIM coverage, so talk with your local independent agent to be sure.
Of course. We were all new riders once!
We know experienced riders are safer riders, so Safeco offers discounts to reward you. We even offer a discount if you've been riding the same vehicle for a while.
Yes! And when you do, we'll give you a discount for having multiple ATVs (or motorcycles, snowmobiles, golf carts, and other off-road vehicles) on the same policy.
It depends. If you're out in the wilderness many miles from a public road, you're also beyond reach for a tow truck or other service vehicle. But if you're near a public road, we offer roadside coverage with trip interruption coverage. If you tend to stick closer to your property, roadside assistance will cover your towing expense and labor costs to help fix an electrical or mechanical breakdown, dead battery, flat tire, or lack of essential fluids, though you have to be within 100 feet or a public road so we can get to you! If you trailer your ATV more than 100 miles from home, roadside assistance includes trip interruption coverage, which provides reimbursement for expenses like lodging, meals, and transportation if your ATV is disabled.
Yes. We know customizing your vehicle is important to you. Safeco's Custom Parts & Equipment coverage applies to all after-market updates. We automatically include $3,000 of custom parts and equipment coverage when you purchase comprehensive and/or collision coverage for your vehicle. If it has more than $3,000 worth of custom parts or equipment, you can add up to $20,000 of coverage (per ATV, UTV, or dirt bike) for an additional premium. All custom parts and equipment will be repaired or replaced without an adjustment for depreciation.
Yes. Every Safeco off-road policy with comprehensive and/or collision coverage automatically includes OEM parts coverage.
We're glad you take riding safety as seriously as we do. That's why every policy, even liability-only coverage, includes $1,000 of coverage per rider for safety apparel such as your helmet, boots, gloves, and riding goggles.
