2014 Fall Make More Happen Awards

Through the Make More Happen Awards, Safeco Insurance recognizes and celebrates independent insurance agencies that volunteer their time and talent in their communities.

Here’s how it works:

  • Three times a year, Safeco Insurance asks for entries from independent insurance agents who volunteer for a qualifying 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Safeco evaluates the entries, based on the impact the agents and the corresponding charities make, and selects 30 winners. On behalf of each winning agency, Safeco donates $3,000 to the charities – $30,000 total.
  • Then it’s time for the Make More Happen Contest, giving the 30 nonprofits the chance to win additional funds. The public votes for its favorite charity in the contest, and the one that receives the most votes wins $10,000 while the runner-up gets $5,000. In addition, if total participation in the contest surpasses 25,000 votes, each of the 30 charities wins $500.

The charities participating in the fall Make More Happen Contest smashed the 25,000 vote goal, resulting in an additional $500 for each.

Coming in first place and winning $10,000 from Safeco was Meredith-Dunn Learning Disabilities Center, Louisville, Kentucky, which receives volunteer support from Old Kentucky Insurance, also in Louisville, Kentucky.

Coming in second place and winning $5,000 from Safeco was Dress the Child, Las Cruces, New Mexico, which receives volunteer help from Pat Campbell Insurance, Las Cruces, New Mexico.
