In southern California, a goldendoodle named Merry goes on therapeutic visits to seniors and hospice patients. In Kerrville, Texas, disabled and ill children attend summer camp for free.
Safeco Insurance helps to support nonprofit organizations like the Pet Prescription Team in California and the Texas Lions Club with donations made on behalf of the independent insurance agents who volunteer for the charities. Recently, Safeco donated and awarded a total of $120,000 to 30 charities as part of the spring 2014 Make More Happen Awards and Make More Happen Contest.
Three times a year, Safeco’s Make More Happen Awards recognize 30 independent insurance agencies for making more happen for a local charity through volunteer work. The award includes a $3,000 donation to each of the 30 charities on behalf of the agencies. Then the 30 charities vie for additional funds in the online Make More Happen Contest.
After tallying nearly 38,000 votes in this spring’s contest, the winners are:
“Thank you Safeco for recognizing and financially helping nonprofit organizations,” says Janice Martin of Partner Agency Insurance. Martin supports the efforts of Pet Prescription Team to train and certify family pets as therapy animals and has taken her dog, Merry, on more than 300 outings.
For surpassing 25,000 votes in the contest, all charities this spring win $500. In all, 28 charities will each receive $3,500. Texas Lions Camp will get $8,500, and Pet Prescription Team will receive a total of $13,500.
Up next, Safeco Insurance will feature another 30 independent insurance agencies and the charities for which they volunteer in the summer edition of Make More Happen. Online voting will begin in late July.
