Terrible appraisal services

After almost a week after wreck, appraiser still had not contacted me, & because I didn't have rental insurance, I have to pay longer because they are not in a hurry to get appraisal. Terrible company policies not to have rental included, & not to use garages for appraisals, or get their appraiser there in timely fashion.

slow response for appraisal

Service was great

The adjusters were excellent and call center person was great. Though the call center rep said get services and keep receipts, bad advice since our claim was later denied. Had no issue with the adjusters. They did all they could, but with policy need to compre with other firms.

Pleasantly Suprised

Our claims adjuster was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was also very surprised at the speed that Safeco processed the claim. I received a check and an estimate of the damages on my house before the claims adjuster ever left the site.

Disappointed in lack of claims service

After discovering several leaks and some pieces of shingles in our yard, we contacted a roofing contractor to check our roof. He reported we definitely had haildamage, so we then contacted Safeco Claims, and they sent an adjusting crew out. They said the damage was not bad enough to warrant a new roof, but we still have the leaks.

Never again.

I write this to hopefully save some other people the amount of drama and incompetence I've experienced over the last 2 weeks. My claims adjuster forgot to fill out paperwork, had my vehicle wrongfully towed, sent it by accident to be destroyed at a junkyard, promised to fix problems or mistakes he made, but only caused more, he never answered his phone or returned messages, and at one point, I spent 2 days trying to find the location of my vehicle when it was wrono fully towe'd to a junkyard aND misplaced due to "mishandled paperwork". It has almost been two weeks and I'm no closer to getting my car repaired then when I started. The customer service rep was very helpful though, and with her help I was able to at least get some answers as to why things were so bad. I am leaving safeco, and will be getting another auto insurance provider, as soon as I can finally get my car back.

Dishonest and Unethical

We have had home and auto insurance with Safeco since purchasing our home in 2013. This year we had severe hail storms in the spring, and as a result, had a local independent contractor (with an A+ BBB rating) inspect our roof. After the contractor indicated the hail damage to the roof was consistent with these storms, we contacted Safeco to file our very first claim. Although the inspector agreed we needed a new roof and that there was hail damage evident, she insisted that it was old damage. After receiving what can only be described as an incoherent determination letter, we called our adjuster for clarification. The Adjuster also confirmed the pictures and report - which she would not allow us to see - showed evidence of "spider marks" from hail impact, but said the damage was old and our claim was denied and closed. We mentioned the report from the independent contractor and requested an inspection to be conducted in the presence of ourselves and the independent contractor since each inspector arrived at opposite conclusions, but our adjuster and her manager would not respond to our email request.The roof was replaced in 2001 per the seller's disclosure, making our roof only 15 years old. Prior to our purchasing the home in September, 2013, we had a final roof inspection, signed and dated, that confirmed the roof was in good condition and would last for many years. We have not had hail storms of this degree and intensity since purchasing the home, so if the adjuster and inspector acknowledged hail damage, and the roof inspection in 2013 showed no damage, then obviously the damage is from this year's storms, just as the independent contractor initially indicated. It is clear they have no intention of granting us an additional inspection, or to even let us see the results of their inspection. Perhaps it is common practice to deny your clients access to their inspection reports, but as a first time homeowner this seems highly suspect, dishonest and unethical. Whether a claim is denied or approved, your customers should have access to their inspection reports if only to help them determine what repairs are needed and how much they can expect to pay for those repairs.Safeco has left us completely in the dark, having only provided confounding, and even contradictory information. I cannot in good conscience recommend Safeco's services and would urge anyone considering this company (as well as existing customers) to go elsewhere for their insurance needs.

Unresponsive and Poor Handling

After recently hitting a deer, I obtained a quote from reputable shop which is a direct claim center for another insurer. What I received from Safeco was several hundred dollars less, and I did not get much of an explanation other than this is what it should be. When I asked additional questions the adjuster referred me to the claim handler, who never responded to me. I received a check about a week later (slow) for the lower amount and a letter congratulating themselves on helping me, when they did not meet basic customer service expectations.

Poor when you sell a car paid for full year only

Please don't sell your car. Cost you more. Eventhough you will replace it when you find the right one. You won't get your money back you paid for the 6 months you don't use the insurance.

Horrible company! Finds any loop hole to not pay!

We have our home owners and auto insurance through SAFECO and we recently have our basement flood. SAFECO did everything it could to find a reason to pay and refused to pay our claim even though we have coverage! Never use them if you ever want to get your claim covered.

Extremely poor customer relations

Extremely Poor Experience

I was the victim of a hit and run. Safeco has shown no interest in tracking down the other party even though I furnished a copy of his license plate as well as his name and address in a Police Report. Safeco is much more interested in closing the case and withholding my deductible. I've been a customer for years and haven't had any claims. If you have no claims, they are price competitive. Unfortunately, now that I have a claim, I realize that they are not a partner and I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Low offer for roof repair

The settlement we were given was below market. The estimate of what the shingles will cost is less than what our roofer can find for the same quality. We are now two months into a back-and-forth with the adjustor.

misinforming the customer

Rained and flooded my basement had /have a leak. First guy I talked to said yes it's covered. Set up a claim had the adjuster call and say that they would not cover it unless I had a sump pump. That he's almost positive that the leak might not even happen again.

Great roadside service

I have used Safeco's roadside assistance twice. Both times my car battery needed jumping, first in Minnesota and most recently in a northwest Chicago suburb. In both instances, service was timely (no long wait), providers competent, helpful and friendly. Both times, I was advised to drive or let my car run for about 45 minutes (to recharge fully) before shutting car off. Helpful advice!

Horrible tow service!

After waiting for 6 hours for the Tow, I had to get a complete stranger to help me with my flat tire! I was tired of waiting. It's not good business to leave your customer stranded for so long. The tow truck guy called 2 hours later saying that he was close by! Ridiculous!

Beware!

Read your policy!!! Know what's covered and what's not! Look into "water back up endorsements", flash flood can happen anywhere and your sewer can back up into your house from a toilet! Oh yes it can, because it happened to us and we were not covered for just that circumstance.

Poor service 0 not even a 1 star

Dropped my policy without notification when I didn't get billing statement. Then tried to add on costs to reinstate policy. I ended up dropping my home, car and umbrella policies. Bad way to do business.
