Matthew Nickerson serves as executive vice president and president, Safeco Insurance.
Nickerson has been with Safeco since September 2008, formerly serving as chief operating officer with responsibility for sales, marketing, underwriting, service operations, financial services and the customer experience organizations.
Previously, Nickerson was senior vice president and manager of Personal Lines within Liberty Mutual Agency Corporation. He has over 25 years of industry experience with Liberty Mutual Insurance and has held several executive roles within the Liberty Mutual Agency Corporation business unit, including serving as president and chief executive officer of Liberty Northwest. Additionally during his career at Liberty Mutual, Nickerson has held senior level positions in claims, finance and commercial risk services.
Nickerson holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern New Hampshire and a bachelor's degree in mathematics and business from Colby College. He also has completed the insurance executive education program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
