Seattle, Wash. (Aug. 22, 2011) — Safeco Insurance has named Harold Fugate a Community Hero for his work with the El Do Youth, Inc., which will receive a $2,000 donation from Safeco on behalf of Fugate and the Mid Missouri Insurance Agency, Inc., El Dorado Springs, Mo.
Fugate was nominated for the Safeco Community Hero award by Dennis James Talley, manager, of Mid Missouri Insurance Agency.
Each year Safeco celebrates local heroes who make a positive difference through its Agent Giving Program that’s designed to focus on three areas: education, health and safety, and civic engagement.
“Safeco applauds community heroes, like Harold, who share their gifts for giving and action,” said Brenda Mann Harrison, manager, Safeco Insurance Agent Giving Program. “We also thank the Mid Missouri Insurance Agency for nominating Harold and its commitment to community involvement.”
A tough economy didn't stop Fugate from running a successful campaign to raise funds for a community youth center in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. As president and board member of El Do Youth, Inc., Fugate continues to work selflessly to ensure that the community's youngsters have access to supervised activities in a healthy, moral environment. El Do Youth serves all young residents in the community, but primarily focuses on reaching out to disadvantaged children.
Construction of the 7,200-square-foot youth center began in March 2011. An old school property on the community's North Main Street is being remodeled and expanded. The youth center is located in the most economically challenged area of El Dorado Springs.
When the youth center opens its doors, it will provide facilities for a variety of youth activities, including an after-school program and access to a large computer lab. Meeting rooms and banquet facilities will also be available for public use.
